Um lapso da SIGNAL / One mistake of SIGNAL

A SIGNAL cometeu no seu número 14 de 1941 um lapso, que consistiu em ter identificado o cantor Francisco d’Almeida como espanhol, quando na realidade era português. O artigo, intitulado na edição Po “O eterno incompreendido Don Juan”, mereceu mesmo uma página a cores reproduzindo um quadro que representa o cantor.

A SIGNAL não corrigiu o seu erro senão na edição portuguesa para Portugal através de uma pequena tarjeta solta que seria inserida na página a que respeitava. Na totalidade das outras edições a rectificação não foi feita.

A desculpa apresentada pela Deutscher Verlag é muito má, e de facto não é uma justificação séria.

Neste período, sabe-se que uma grande parte da edição em português, que já era impressa na casa Curial-Archereau de Paris desde o número anterior, ia para o Brasil, e tal situação seria mantida ainda por alguns meses. Mas ignora-se se esta tarjeta lá ia também.

De qualquer modo, uma vez que muitos coleccionadores nunca a viram apresento-a aqui.

SIGNAL made a mistake in it’s number 14 of 1941, which consisted in having identified the singer Francisco d’Almeida as being spanish when he was in fact portuguese. The article titled “The ethernal Don Juan” was honored with a colour page representig a painting of the singer.

SIGNAL didn’t rectify the error except for the portuguese edition for Portugal through a small sheet inserted in the respective page. In all others, the sheet is missing.

The excuse presented, being a very large diffusion magazine is very bad indeed, and not convincing.

By this time, the Po edition was made in Curiaç-Archereau in Paris since the preceding number, and many were being sent to Brazil. It is not known if the sheet was present in the magazines sent there.

Anyway, I know that most collectors don’t know about this, so I show it here.
